Pentax 67 Lenses Plus Side The

I looked at Richard Crisps shots with the 3004, but I thought they werent very sharp.

Heres an adapter from Fotodiox that claims no problem with focus at infinity.

I also like the fact that it has a tripod mount, because the lens is heavy and has no collar.

Very recently I borrowed another 2004 and the 3004 from a good friend who has a few of these older lenses.

I slipped them onto the front of my Fuji X-Pro1, and APS sized colour camera, and shot a few astro shots.

Honestly, they were not glowing like I recalled, they were awful, and I returned the two lenses straight away.

Maybe stopping them down a bit would help, I didnt really try as the first impression was not flash at all.

Chromatic aberration was the main issue, and thinking back, maybe I used my earlier 2004 with my mono CCD, and an Ha filter.

I use the Fuji 351.4, and the Leica R 502, and get by far and away better results.

Adaptors are cheap, I got one to fit EOS from e bay, and then adapt the Fuji from there.

Wide open (F4) the stars are pinpoint and there is no CA at all visible.

I have also tested several of the older Pentax lenses for astrophotography: while they work great for narrowband, they all have significant violet fringing with broad band images.

Supposedly it is one of those standout lenses: being a newer design.

So I hauled out the modded T3i, a tripod for a quick and dirty test of the 67 100mm macro.

I was disappointed with what I saw, significant red halos around bright stars.

On the plus side the stars were round to the edge of the frame.

I then tried the canon 24-105 zoom at 105mm F5.6 where it has been a decent (not outstanding) performer.

There were practically no halos at the center of the frame but the edge of the frame showed some very slightly comatic stars and some halos around bright stars.

Then I had a realization: maybe these halos were caused by the CLS-CCD clip filter.

Halos MUCH reduced.

Stars looked better but still slightly comatic towards edge of frame.

Very slight smearing towards edge of frame but stars still very round.

An important point to note is that most camera lenses are not optimized for extra filters in the path to the filmsensor plane.
